National Apprenticeship Week 2022

National Apprenticeship Week 2022 saw Rachel Statter, our Social Value Manager, and many of the past and current apprentices deliver fantastic presentations and Q&A sessions to over 2000 people! It was a huge success with great feedback giving more people insight into the industry we work in.

Colby, Jerome, Muhammad, Jahiem, Iman, Inglant and Gemma Lake were all fantastic ambassadors during the six virtual school sessions, answering student’s questions and talking about their lives as apprentices to over 800 students! We’ve had multiple applications since they talked about how much they loved being Aston Group apprentices and some fantastic positive comments about their input.

Additionally, we attended two careers fairs with at Leyton Sixth Form Centre and The London Academy of Sustainable Construction, where Ian and Scott were on hand to give their expert advice to the 1000 students and local residents interested in a career in construction.

Being able to promote our industry to over 2000 people during nine events means that we are able to meet and identify upcoming local talent for future apprenticeships, and have already arranged interviews with a number of the residents we met during the week.

Some of the activities included, running eight apprentice awareness sessions to over 1000 Waltham Forest students at Waltham Forest College, Heathcote School and Higham Park School.

A mentor at Aston Group, Oliver, and his apprentice, Colby attended two live sessions at the College, in front of over 200 students, where they talked about their experiences and daily duties as apprentice and mentor.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week – 2022’ Heathcote School and Science College were delighted to be able to host five Employer Insight’ sessions with Rachel Statter plus staff and apprentices from Aston Group. Because Aston Group offer a wide range of career opportunities in various trade and office based roles, and aim to recruit people into their workforce that reflect the diverse communities they work in, we were really excited to be able to offer this opportunity to a large number of our pupils to raise awareness of local job opportunities. Rachel and the team (including ex Heathcote pupil Gemma!) made the presentation informative, relevant and very relatable. I’d like to thank them all for taking the time out of their busy schedules to inspire and educate our pupils on the world of work!”
