Crafty Coronation Celebrations

To celebrate the King’s Coronation, Aston Group hosted two arts and crafts sessions at local community centres during the first week of May.

Waltham Forest Community Hub Coffee Morning

The first session was held at Waltham Forest Community Hub, in Orford Road, Walthamstow, during their weekly Befriending Coffee Morning. Each Wednesday between 10.30am -12.30pm, this free to attend community event provides a warm welcome and refreshments to residents who travel from all over the borough to attend and socialise.

Our Social Value Manager had great fun with everyone there, who enjoyed the coronation themed arts and crafts activities we provided. They decorated magnets, bookmarks, badges and royal lanterns, with many commenting how relaxing they found it. We also handed out some spare kits to local families to take home for their children who were at school.

The coffee morning is a fantastic way to meet new people, boost social skills, take part in the regular activities the Hub put on, and reduces isolation and loneliness. Aston Group are looking forward to supporting the Befriending events with multiple wellbeing sessions planned over the next few months!

William Morris Big Local Community Living Room at Priory Court Community Centre

Our second session was held at Priory Court Community Centre, for residents attending the Community Living Room.

Delivered by William Morris Big Local, the community sessions have proved very successful with multiple residents repeatedly returning for the twice a week sessions. Held on Monday and Thursday afternoons, the team put on a wide range of activities to keep everyone entertained, with free refreshments for all. We were delighted to be able to bring along our Coronation themed activities which everyone eagerly joined in with.

For this session we brought along our Crown decorating kits, which proved a big hit with the 17 residents attending that day.

It was lovely to see everyone swapping creative ideas and working together to complete their crowns. The activity soon became a fashion show with everyone keen to pose with their new fashion headpieces, with lots of modelling and selfie taking! One resident told our Social Value Manager “I wasn’t sure I wanted to take part at first, but once I got stuck in making my crown, I had a great time. Thanks for putting on the session and I hope you come again to do more.”

We most certainly will, and look forward to providing further inclusive activities for residents to enjoy.
