Women in Construction Week: Aston Group inspires the next generation at Capital City College
Aston Group celebrated Women in Construction Week by hosting a panel discussion, delivering a careers workshop and sharing the stories of women across the business to inspire more women and girls to consider careers in the built environment.
At Aston Group, we were proud to celebrate Women in Construction Week, recognising the achievements of women across our business while encouraging more women and girls to consider a future in the built environment.
Construction and property services offer a wide variety of rewarding careers, and throughout the week we focused on sharing real experiences, opening up conversations, and inspiring the next generation to explore the opportunities available in the sector.
Inspiring the next generation at Capital City College
One of the highlights of the week was our visit to Capital City College’s Tottenham Campus, where Aston Group hosted its inaugural Women in Construction panel discussion.
The event brought together women from across several London boroughs who are interested in starting a career in the built environment. It was inspiring to see so much enthusiasm and curiosity about the diverse opportunities available within the industry.
Attendees heard powerful personal stories from successful women working across a wide range of roles, including quantity surveyors, gas and electrical apprentices, social value professionals, health and safety specialists, systems experts, resident liaison officers and document controllers.
“There are so many different routes into construction. You don’t have to follow one traditional path to build a successful career in this industry.”
The panel discussion and networking session, hosted by Aston Group’s Social Value Manager Rachel Statter, gave participants the opportunity to ask questions, gain practical insights and connect directly with women already working in the sector.
Their journeys, experiences and honesty provided real inspiration for those considering their first steps into construction.
“Seeing women already working in these roles helps people realise that they can do it too.”
Events like this highlight the breadth of opportunity within the sector and reinforce why representation matters. By sharing real stories and career pathways, we can help break down misconceptions and encourage more women to explore the industry.

Continuing the conversation through skills and training
As part of our Women in Construction Week activities, Aston Group’s CSR Manager Rachel also delivered a Sector Work Based Academy Programme workshop, linked to the panel discussion at Capital City College.
The workshop brought together local participants to continue the conversation about careers in construction and property services. It explored the many pathways available across the industry — from trade and technical roles to project management, sustainability, customer engagement and community-focused careers.
“Construction is far more diverse than many people realise. There are roles for a huge range of skills and interests.”
Sessions like this are vital in helping people understand the true diversity of the sector. The more we talk about the opportunities available and share these conversations with friends, families and communities, the more awareness we create about the range of careers that exist.
By opening up these conversations, we can inspire more people to explore careers in the sector and see the real impact this work has on improving homes and communities.
Inspiring the next generation of women in construction
Sharing the stories of women at Aston Group
Alongside our external engagement, we also took the opportunity to celebrate the incredible women already working within Aston Group.
In our latest film, we spoke with several members of our team about their career journeys and what it was really like starting out in the construction industry. Their stories highlight that there is no single path into the sector.
Featured in the film are our:
- Operations Director
- Quantity Surveyor
- Head of Finance
- Director of People and Organisational Development
- Gas Apprentice
Many of them didn’t originally plan to work in construction, which makes their journeys even more inspiring. Hearing how they found their path — and where it has taken them — is a powerful reminder that careers in the built environment can begin in many different ways.
“I didn’t originally plan to work in construction, but once I discovered the opportunities available it opened the door to an incredibly rewarding career.”
Building a more inclusive industry
At Aston Group, we believe a diverse workforce makes us stronger. Different perspectives lead to better ideas, stronger collaboration and improved outcomes for our teams, our clients and the communities we serve.
Encouraging more women into the sector is not just about one event or one week — it’s an ongoing commitment. By continuing to share experiences, promote opportunities and support emerging talent, we hope to inspire more women to see construction and property services as a rewarding and fulfilling career choice.
The work we do with local councils and housing associations helps improve homes and communities every day, and we want more women to be part of shaping the future of the industry.
Watch our film to hear the stories of the women helping to drive Aston Group forward.
