Supporting stronger communities through resident engagement in Hackney

At Aston Group, delivering social value is a core part of how we work. Alongside improving homes and infrastructure, we are committed to engaging residents, strengthening communities and creating positive social impact in the neighbourhoods where we operate.

As part of our ongoing work in the London Borough of Hackney, we recently brought residents together at Kirkstead Court for a community event designed to encourage connection, inclusion and wellbeing.

Bringing residents together

While the festive season has passed, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to recognise the importance of small, meaningful moments that help people feel connected. We were delighted to host a Christmas celebration for residents at Kirkstead Court, providing an opportunity for neighbours to come together in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The afternoon included a lively Christmas quiz, festive games and activities, creative ornament-making and a special visit from Santa — brilliantly played by Aston Group’s Senior Resident Liaison Officer, Shane Marshall — bringing plenty of smiles and laughter.

Reducing isolation and supporting wellbeing

The event played an important role in reducing isolation and loneliness, particularly for residents who may not otherwise have the opportunity to socialise locally. It was organised by Social Value Manager Rachel Statter, alongside Mechanical Services Contract Manager Dean Sherrin MCIPHE MIoL, Resident Liaison Officer Ricardo Barnet and Site Manager Ionut Canea, whose collaborative approach ensured the event was inclusive and well supported.

The celebration took place in the communal room at Kirkstead Court, which Aston Group recently repaired and secured as part of our works on site. Reopening this shared space has enabled residents to reconnect and rebuild a sense of community, and it was rewarding to see the room filled once again with conversation, laughter and energy.

Social value beyond the build

Engaging residents and investing in shared spaces is central to Aston Group’s approach to social value. By creating opportunities for people to come together, we aim to leave a lasting positive impact that goes beyond physical improvements to buildings.

We are proud to support initiatives that help build stronger, more connected communities and look forward to continuing our resident engagement work across Hackney.
