International Women's Day Career Talk

International women week

Taylor Wimpey and SIMIAN supported by Aston Group marked International Women’s Day 2024 by inspiring female students in Waltham Forest to prepare them for the workplace.

The talk on International Women’s Day was specifically designed to help year 9 and 10 female students prepare for their first job. The interactive session included advice on demystifying stereotypical myths, creating a school leaver CV, how to prepare for an interview, and an interview roleplay.

Ann-Marie Linehan, Assistant head Teacher, Buxton School said “The workshop today was wonderful. Students loved be in a female only environment exploring how gender can influence job applications, confidence and how we perceive different roles and industries. The speed interviews successfully gave the students an insight into the kinds the questions they may be asked as well as supporting them to think under pressure and using real-life examples to support their points”.

There are so many opportunities for women to have exciting careers in construction and we’re really pleased to have been able to talk to students at Buxton School on International Women’s Day this year.

Sara Calvo from the South East Business Development Manager at SIMIAN at LASC said “I am always amazed by the enthusiasm of the young people in Waltham Forest. It is always a pleasure to deliver workshops in schools and at our training centre in Leytonstone, London Academy of Sustainable Construction (LASC). We aim to give insight and assist the students in making informed career choices in a fun, interactive way."
